Ceramist | potter’s Wheel

Aileen Castañeda nace en Nueva York en 1962 y reside en Puerto Rico desde 1970. Obtiene un bachillerato en arte de Drew University, Nueva Jersey, y continúa estudios en arte en Studio Art Center International, Florencia, Italia, y luego de cerámica en Casa Candina, escuela, galería y centro cultural en San Juan, PR. En 1992 se une a la Junta de Directores de Casa Candina y con ellos coorganiza el Premio Casa Candina: Bienal de la Cerámica Contemporánea Puertorriqueña (1992-2004); Intercambio 3 e Intercambio 3+2 México, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Cuba y República Dominicana (1995 -2001), entre otras exposiciones. Castañeda ha exhibido individualmente en PR, Italia, Estados Unidos y México, y ha participado en numerosas exposiciones colectivas en y fuera de Puerto Rico. Ha sido artista residente en la Fabbrica Giuseppe Mazzotti, Albissola, Italia; The Clay Studio, Filadelfia, PA; y la Fundación Gruber Jez, Yucatán, México. Su obra está en museos en Assemini (Cerdeña), Teramo y Albissola Marina, Italia, y en Gurabo, Ponce y San Juan, PR, al igual que en colecciones como la de The Clay Studio en Filadelfia, Pensilvania, la Fundación Gruber Jez en Mérida, Yucatán, México, y el Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, San Juan. Desde 1988 ha ofrecido clases de cerámica en diversos talleres e instituciones de arte.

Aileen Castañeda, born in New York in 1962, has lived in Puerto Rico since 1970. She obtained a BA degree in art from Drew University, NJ, and continued her art studies at the Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy, and ceramics in Casa Candina, a ceramic school and exhibition space in San Juan, PR. In 1992, Castañeda became a member of the board of directors of Casa Candina, and she has co-organized multiple local and international exhibitions including the Premio Casa Candina: Biennial of Puerto Rican Contemporary Ceramics exhibition (1992-2004) and Intercambio 3 and Intercambio 3+2, Mexico Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Cuba and Dominican Republic (1995-2001) among other exhibitions. Castañeda has had several solo exhibitions in PR as well as in Italy, USA and México and numerous group exhibitions on and off the island. She has participated in artist residencies at Fabbrica Ceramiche Giuseppe Mazzotti, Albisola, Italy, The Clay Studio, Philadelphia, PA, and the Gruber Jez Foundation in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico.
